Estimation of renal perfusion based on measurement of rubidium-82 clearance by PET/CT scanning in healthy subjects

Abstract Background Changes in renal blood flow (RBF) may play a pathophysiological role hypertension and kidney disease. However, RBF determination humans has proven difficult. We aimed to confirm the feasibility of estimation based on positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) rubidium-82 ( 82 Rb) using abdominal aorta as input function 1-tissue compartment model. Methods Eighteen healthy subjects underwent two dynamic Rb PET/CT scans different fields view (FOV). FOV-A included left ventricular pool (LVBP), (AA) majority kidneys. FOV-B AA kidneys their entirety. In FOV-A, an was derived from LVBP AA, AA. One-tissue compartmental modelling performed tissue time activity curves generated volumes interest (VOI) contouring kidneys, where clearance is represented by K 1 kinetic parameter. Total for both calculated multiplying values with volume VOIs used analysis. Intra-assay coefficients variation inter-observer were calculated. Results For did not differ significantly obtained LVBP, neither significant differences seen between FOV-B, nor right intra-assay low (~ 5%) functions. The measured 2.80 ml/min/cm 3 translates total 766 ml/min/1.73 m 2 . Conclusion Measurement perfusion model feasible single FOV. Based previous studies showing be primarily present plasma, are most likely representative effective plasma (ERPF) rather than estimated values, but accurate calculation clearance/flow very much dependent analysed volume, standardised definition employed needed allow proper comparison standard ERPF reference methods.
